Government GSA Schedule Contracts for Women-Owned Businesses
SBA mandates 5% set asides for women-owned businesses
The Government has a large commitment for small businesses (23% of contracts) and women owned businesses (5%). Unfortunately, this often goes wanting. We at GSA Access Group want to help women owned businesses get their fair share by getting their own GSA Schedule.
Steps to Getting Started Selling to the Government
Selling to the Government is similar to your regular marketing except with a few more wrinkles. First, target your market segment. It may mean a certain agency, a specific region or state. GSA Access Group provides a list of agency contracts tailored to your target market at no extra charge to its clients. Many companies find that partnering up with a Prime Vendor is easier. Secondly, you may want to be a certified woman owned company. However most Government agencies and Prime Vendors accept self-certification. Get help from GSA Access Group evaluating your sales opportunities with our Custom Market Analysis.
GSA Pathways to Success Training
The GSA Pathways to Success program is mandatory for all new GSA contract holders. It is an in depth free course put on by GSA to make sure you succeed. In fact, if you fail to take it, your guarantee is canceled. Plus GSA Access Group provides you with other marketing opportunities including leads. The Government expects its Schedule holders like you to gain at least $100,000 in sales in the first five years, so the benefit of a GSA Schedule is readily apparent. GSA has a thorough marketing campaign targeted at Government agencies promoting the GSA Schedule system. GSA Access Group has a vested interest in your success because a successful company will need GSA Schedule renewals and we get great testimonials.
Advisory Group
We highly recommend that new GSA Schedule holders do what many successful growing venture owners do. Put together your own Mastermind advisory group. Include a banker, financial expert such as a CPA, business attorney, marketing expert, and a successful retired business person. If you want to do business with the government, try to get someone with experience such as a retired executive from a major prime vendor.
Why do this? We want you to succeed and succeeding means playing the game right. The glass ceiling still exists when it comes to getting business from the Government and their Prime contractors. So get some people who have been there, done that and know how to help you.
And be sure to ask us about our Federal Marketing Roadmap. We can find the agency with money to spend in your sector and lead you to their door.
What is a GSA Schedule Contract?
General Services Administration or GSA uses the GSA Federal Supply Schedule program, also called a GSA Schedule, to manage services and products purchased by Government agencies and departments. In some cases, such as GSA Schedule 70 (IT) and GSA Schedule 84 (law enforcement) the contracts are also used by State and Local municipalities, universities and other public entities for purchasing. Establishing a GSA Schedule means your company has been approved and has posted its prices on GSAAdvantage! and is eligible to utilize eBuy. So this improves your chances of getting business from the Government.
